In our new exhibition A World Unseen, the gallery twenty-six provides you with the rare, even unique opportunity to experience a powerful selection of the captivating latest works of art by Alice Ella, Franziska Schemel and Christian Bazant-Hegemark.

As different as these three artistic personalities and their visual idioms may appear to be prima vista, A World Unseen shows that, at the essence of the selected works is about threshold experiences, thresholds of awareness, moments of new perceptions, about exploring the inner and outer boundaries of the individual anew.

As before, Alice Ella‘s works of art captivate due to and excel through their motivic immediacy, with a considerable amount of their appeal lying in their typical aesthetics somewhere between art deco, pop art and instagram-aesthetics – however, the Alice Ella-signature style appears dynamized, energized, more lively, more powerful; Alice-Ella-Signature-Style 2.0, so to speak; the highly stylized silhouettes of the figurines have emancipated themselves from their decorative flatness and, with a new self-confidence, have set out to explore urbanity, what they feel like and what makes sense to them.

In her pictorial objects, Franziska Schemel also deals with living in urban space. However, her focus is on architectural elements that often remain below the threshold of perception in everyday life and are therefore hardly specifically remembered: transitional spaces (e.g. stairs, subway stations, etc.)

The artist assembles her own small-format photographs into her large-format panels, often depicting people at the intersection. The human figure – passers-by- people, each in their own world – is essential to the image as it “shows the way“, according to the artist, Thus a window opens through which Schemel draws the viewers‘ attention to the imaginary-illusionary within the real, reveals the artificiality of urban living environments, with all their sociological and psychological implications.

Christian Bazant-Hegemark‘s latest works of art – small-format continuations of his “Glitch“-series as well as highly impressive etchings – even venture a step further, in terms of  thresholds of awareness and exploring the inner and outer boundaries of the individual: With pinpoint accuracy the artist works in an utterly fascinating manner between the analogous and the digital, touching on two major taboo subjects: error and trauma.

What does exactly happen while it happens?

What happens afterwards?

What happens after the aftermath?

How do you really deal constructively with distortion and failure?
